There are always plenty of design and technology challenges to get stuck into at Derby High! Recently a group of Upper 4 (Year 9) students took part in the 'Green Plan It' challenge where they had to design a garden for a school. The project helped students to learn new skills such as different methods and techniques of construction. The team designed a Roald Dahl influenced garden for the school and won the 'people's choice award' for their efforts.
The results of the 2017 School Photography competition have been announced! Around 50 entries were received on the theme of ‘Hidden Worlds’, which had been set by Charlotte (L5 Art and Design Scholar). Several students and staff received highly commended and the standard of entry was very high, with some very clever interpretations. In joint third place were Lyebah (L5) for her view across the park at ground level and Eleanor (L5) for her view of the inside framework of a building. In second place was Emma (U4) for her view from the inside of a tunnel in Calke Park. The winner was Orla (U5) for her view of a Delhi stairway and the surrounding cityscape. The staff winner was Mrs Goodman, for her view of a door leading to a hidden world.Congratulations to all who took part, it was good to see experimentation and creativity in the entries this year.
As part of their Design & Technology lessons, our Lower 4 (Year 8) students are set the task of designing and making models of flood proof homes. These are then put to the test by Mrs Hough and her watering can!
