Concerts

Termly concerts in the senior hall showcase the huge array of ensembles, bands, choirs and orchestras here at the school. These attract large audiences and concerts regularly feature over 100 musicians.

From time to time various groups go out to perform in other venues in Derbyshire. For example, a flute Group performing for the Earl of Wessex at an event to celebrate the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme.

Our chapel choir have performed at various cathedrals throughout the UK, sang Evensong at Oxford and Cambridge colleges and have been broadcast on Radio 4’s Daily Service.

Our students also have the opportunity to attend professional concerts and workshops held at the school such as the Aquinas Piano Trio which includes former Derby High School student Katherine Jenkinson.

Each year we stage a Choral Society Concert with Derby Grammar School in Derby Cathedral. Major choral works are performed with a professional orchestra.

We have strong links with the Derby Concert Orchestra who give 5 concerts per year. Their children’s concert is held at Derby High School every January. Our Director of Music conducts the orchestra and several of our instrumental staff play in this orchestra.

5 choirs from across the school sing at our traditional Christmas Service in Derby Cathedral each year.
