Music at Derby High

Music plays a central part in the life of our school.  We are proud of our musical tradition and are fortunate to have some outstanding purpose-built facilities which were opened by the Earl of Wessex in 2011.

The musical year is packed with concertsservices and events such as our inter-house music competition.

A large proportion of our students take individual instrumental and singing lessons within school.  These are taught by our team of 12 specialist, self-employed staff.

There are many opportunities to make music with others at lunchtimes and after school. This includes:

  • School orchestra;
  • Intermediate Choir (Years 7-9)
  • Senior Choir (Years 10-13)
  • Chapel Choir (by audition)
  • Swing band
  • Flute groups
  • String quartet
  • Saxophone group
  • Clarinet group
