Music at Derby High
Music plays a central part in the life of our school. We are proud of our musical tradition and are fortunate to have some outstanding purpose-built facilities which were opened by the Earl of Wessex in 2011.
The musical year is packed with concerts, services and events such as our inter-house music competition.
A large proportion of our students take individual instrumental and singing lessons within school. These are taught by our team of 12 specialist, self-employed staff.
There are many opportunities to make music with others at lunchtimes and after school. This includes:
- Symphony Orchestra
- Wind band
- String Orchestra
- Intermediate Choir (Years 7-9)
- Senior Choir (Years 10-13)
- Chapel Choir (by audition)
- Jazz Band
- Flute Groups
- String Quartets
- Saxophone Groups
- Clarinet Groups
- House Orchestras & Vocal Groups
