Primary High Notes 19th June

Primary High Notes 19th June

Ever since the UK was placed in lockdown on Monday 23rd March, everyone across the country has had to quickly acclimatize to spending an increased amount of time at home and indoors. Disruptions to everyday life have been far reaching. Our pupils and teachers have adapted incredibly well to the significant changes in how we learn and complete work. I am incredibly proud of each and every one of our pupils dealing with these challenges with such positive and creative responses. It is important though to remember that not every day will be equally productive.

We are all very excited about returning to a more normal routine in September and are looking forward to finally being together again as a school community.

Best Wishes,

Year 5 Video Call - Prefect Announcements

Last Thursday (11th June) was a very exciting day for Year 5! Not only did they have their very first live video call with Mrs Youngman, Dr E-B and Mr Horne, they also found out their prefect roles for Year 6. Mrs Youngman announced each of the roles and it was lovely to see so many big smiles and everyone celebrating each other's achievements. We know they are going to be a wonderful prefect team! Congratulations, Year 5!

Sports Day Event 26th June

Yesterday we launched our Sports Day activity for this Summer Term. The whole school can take part, including infants, juniors, seniors, sixth form and staff.

All pupils will receive information from their teachers and the video to launch the event can be viewed by clicking here.  A reminder to everyone participating in the baton challenge, please catch on YOUR right and throw out to YOUR left.

With a number of different events to enter we hope that everyone at Derby High will participate and earn points for their house.

Year 2 Art

Year 2 have based their home learning on the funny and touching book, Billionaire Boy by David Walliams. Inspired by the main character, Joe Spud, the children have been busy creating their very own mansions from a cardboard box. Well done Year 2!

An Update From Schoolblazer

Schoolblazer will be offering free UK P&P from 6th to the 19th July. Click here for further information on this offer.

The returns period has now been extended to 120 days to encourage parents to shop early without having to worry about their child having grown out of things by the time they start back at school. There is also a new online returns system. The replacement garment is dispatched in an alternative size before receiving the return back. This is to speed up the returns process.

Safeguarding Corner

We are aware that as this strange season continues, many individuals - children, young people and adults- are experiencing increasing mental and emotional stress. There are a number of useful links and resources on the school website but two we would particularly recommend are:

Information from Mind - available at https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/coronavirus/coronavirus-and-your-wellbeing  which has general information about mental and emotional health during this season
