Primary High Notes 22nd May

Primary High Notes 22nd May

As we approach the end of this very unusual half term, I am writing to express my thanks for your continued support in all we have been doing over the past weeks. I know from so many positive comments that you have found the remote learning activities have worked very well for your children. We continue to welcome any suggestions you have about further learning opportunities, so that we can continue to be effective partners in your children’s education.

We are all very excited about the prospect of a phased reopening of Derby High. Thank you for completing the Survey Monkey to help us in our planning for next half term. Final details will be ready to send out to you early next week.

Together, our Derby High community will come through these challenging times and emerge stronger than before.

I wish you all a good half term break. Stay safe and stay well!

Best Wishes

Insect Art by Year 6

This half term Year 6 have travelled from Derby to the Amazonian rainforest.  We've used our senses to investigate the surroundings of the biome, we've explored survival requirements including building dens. We've discussed deforestation and the threat to wildlife. In one of our art lessons the children took a closer look at the insects of the rainforest. Tingatinga Art by Year 3

Last week, Year 3 explored Tingatinga art which began in Tanzania. The art work is bright and colourful and usually shows an African animal. Year 3 researched various pieces of Tingatinga art and then made their own. They did a fantastic job using simple shapes, bold colours and different patterns! Click here to view the full gallery.

We’ll Meet Again by Year 4

Last week Year 4 spent two days working collaboratively. One of their challenges was to record a line each of the famous song “We’ll Meet Again”. Miss Bailey then worked her technical magic and created this wonderful version for the children to watch. Click here to view Year 4 singing “We’ll Meet Again”.

PSHE Week 5 Challenge

This week is mental health awareness week and the theme for this year is kindness. We have asked all primary pupils to design their very own school wellbeing mascot. The mascot needs to be a mental health mascot thinking specifically about kindness. We’d also like to see the Derby High School logo somewhere on your mascot.  Click here to access the mini site which goes along with this challenge. The children will find all the resources and information they need on the mini site.

Upload your design to the mini site by the first day back after half term, 1st June. The winning design will be used across the school’s computers and social media. Good luck!

The Joy of Moving Home School Festival

On Wednesday afternoon our Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 joined in with the Joy of Moving UK Home School Festival. We joined thousands of children and families across the UK with a full afternoon of activities and games to get children and families active.

Happy Eid al-Fitr

If you are celebrating Eid this weekend, we wish you and your family a happy and joyous time together.
