Primary High Notes 10th June 2022
A particular highlight for me this week has been today’s Infant and Junior sports day. It was great to see all the pupils excited and enthusiastic, both when competing and when supporting their Houses. The main idea of our sports day is to encourage children to have fun, to get active and to work together in various fun, physical activities and challenges. I am sure those parents who were able to come along thoroughly enjoyed all the events, especially after 2 years of not being able to join us. I would like to thank Miss Stirland, the PE department, the class teachers and our Year 9 helpers for their hard work ensuring that the day was so successful.
Primary Sports Day
It was a wonderful atmosphere today with the children cheering each other from the track side. With Infants and Juniors joining in with track and field events our pupils demonstrated their sportsmanship, persistence and confidence.
Thank you to all our parents and family members who came to support the children. It was fantastic having you all here to join in the fun!
More photos will be posted on the primary gallery early next week.
Butterflies in our Pre-School
The Wrens had a great week with some of our projects reaching wonderful finales! We finally managed to release our butterflies into the wild after we have cared for them since they were tiny caterpillars. We were also amazed that our lettuces had grown so quickly, to the stage where we could trim them and even try them! Yummy.
Year 5 and 6 Visit Derbyshire v’s Leicestershire Cricket Match
On Thursday, 15 children form Year 5/6 cricket club attend the The Incora County Ground to watch Derbyshire v Leicestershire in the T20 Vitality Blast. This was a fantastic opportunity for our budding cricketers who were extremely excited to go and watch a professional match. The children eagerly watched the players warm-up before the game and were delighted when Derbyshire’s Wayne Madsen came over to them to sign autographs. The match began with Leicestershire batting first, scoring 181-6 off their 20 overs. We were then blessed with an exciting run chase with Derbyshire scoring 182-4 and therefore winning by 6 wickets. The children had an absolutely wonderful time and are inspired to continue playing!

What is the MetaVerse?
There is a lot of talk about the MetaVerse at the moment. It isn't new, but it is gaining traction and there is a lot of development and marketing going on, principally by Facebook (Meta) who are touting it as the next big thing. Sadly, much of the information is negative, it is clear that companies are giving no due regard whatsoever to user safety (see THIS article in The Guardian).
It is important that parents are aware of the MetaVerse, children are going to start talking about it. The NSPCC have put a useful little guide together which would be worth sending out. You can view the guide HERE.
Skin Gambling - A Guide for Professionals and Parents
Do you know what a skin is? Do you know what skin gambling is? They are both related to gaming and as such it is an area that is becoming more concerning. SWGfL have put together a brief guide explaining skin gambling; you can read the guide HERE.
