Primary High Notes 28th May 2021
I really enjoyed joining Calke class and Monsieur Lee in their French lesson yesterday. Monsieur Lee rewarded the boys and girls with a surprise French breakfast, as they have all been working really well, enjoying learning new French vocabulary. I attempted speaking some French with them and very much enjoyed hearing about what they have learnt this year.
I hope that everyone enjoys a lovely half term break, with the weather looking very favourable.
Book Character Fancy Dress
We have completed a full half term back in school! Today we have thoroughly enjoyed marking this welcome milestone by dressing up as our favourite book characters!
Y1 Medieval Day
The kings, queens, princesses, knights and lords and ladies of Year One have had a fantastic medieval day! We have prepared and banqueted on vegetable soup and homemade gingerbread. We had a ball before lunch where we learned and performed two medieval circle dances and this afternoon we went to knight and princess school, where we learned how to become a true knight or princess. The children have had a really amazing day; thank you to parents for providing such wonderful costumes.
Le petit dejeuner est servi!
Some of our Primary French classes are switching to another language after half term for a 4 week taster - German for Y2 and Spanish for Y5, so we thought we'd sign off (for now at least) from French with an end of year "assessment" with a difference!
Students were taken to the "exam hall" (dining hall!) and presented with their "tests" - a croissant, some jam and hot chocolate - the task being of course, to eat and drink these successfully. Mr Lee was very pleased with the standard of eating and drinking shown by our students and is pleased to say they've all passed the test. Even "Madame La Directrice" Chapman joined Y5 on Thursday and successfully completed the test! Bravo!
Well done to all our MFL students in Primary, you've been brilliant sports all year in often difficult circumstances!
It was brilliant to be able to invite Old Vicarage for a Y4 Rounders fixture this week. Although it has been cold and very wet over the past few weeks, we were amazed that it stayed dry and the sun even came out for us. We won the toss and started our first innings with fielding. OV scored 5 ½ rounders and we were able to get 4 of their batters out with some great team work. We then went on to score 7 ½ rounders in our first batting innings, giving us a comfortable lead going into our 2nd fielding innings. Our fielding only got stronger as OV didn’t manage to score as many as in their first innings, scoring 4 ½ , giving them a total of 10 ½ rounders. We headed into our final batting innings 7 ½ to 10 ½, but finished with a final score of 11 ½ , giving us the overall lead! Great team work from everyone, well done Y4!
A team of Year 3 cricketers were delighted to host Old Vicarage School this week. Following the paired format of the game, all of the children batted with a partner as well as taking turns to bowl whilst in the field. Congratulations to Vedant for taking two wickets with very accurate deliveries. Shot of the day came from Chloe who produced an excellent pull shot to send the ball away for four runs. The Derby High players played very well against a more experienced opposition who won the game due to taking more wickets. The match was played with a very positive and encouraging approach and thoroughly enjoyed by all.
This week the Wrens had a fantastic time on their Minibeast hunt. We explored all over the school grounds and found lots of amazing creatures! We even had time to explore our Forest School area.
