It was wonderful to have a full Senior Hall last Friday evening for the performance of the Lower School play, Alice in Wonderland: Down the Rabbit Hole. I would like to congratulate the cast and crew. Everyone in the audience was impressed by the quality of performance and recognised the huge efforts of all involved, both on and off the stage. I want to say a huge thank you to our Drama Prefect, Charlotte, along with the other Sixth Form and Year 11 students who worked incredibly hard to ensure the show was a great success.

Here at Derby High it is so true every Friday that we have had a very busy week. Our students astound me with all that they do alongside their studies. I am always so impressed by the willingness and desire from our students to be involved and give their best in everything they do and the dedication from our staff to offer a breadth of opportunities for their pupils. Our celebration assemblies are a wonderful opportunity for us to share so many fantastic achievements and successes in a wide range of academic and co-curricular endeavours. This week I was delighted to be able to present certificates for Music, LAMDA and super-curricular language immersion challenge, along with the U16 Quad Cup Champions in netball and the House Netball Cup.

On Wednesday morning the whole school came together to mark Peace One Day. The UN names a theme for each year's Day of Peace, which takes place on the 21st September. This year, the theme is "End racism. Build peace." The theme is intended to encourage unity and peace. From wars and natural disasters to social injustices and diseases, many factors can influence the dissonance and discord seen in everyday life. UN Secretary-General António Guterres said in his message that we all have a responsibility to contribute to tranquillity and unity for a better world for all.
