34 of our Year 9 students attended the Go4SET celebration and assessment day at Pride Park Stadium. This is a culmination of a 10 week project concerned with using engineering solutions to deal with environmental issues such as sustainable waste management, transportation and leisure. Each group had at least one meeting per week where their mentors from Mott MacDonald Bentley and Rolls Royce were available to help them develop their ideas. At the end of the project they had produced a model, a report and a presentation to deliver to judges from both the Engineering Development Trust (EDT) and The Big Bang fair, which was taking place in the nearby Derby Arena.
All the students talked knowledgeably about their chosen project and were able to answer questions about it in detail. They were then given an opportunity to visit the Big Bang Fair whilst the judges deliberated over lunch. On returning to Pride Park stadium they were given feedback from the judges about what they had done well and what they could consider doing if they did a further engineering project. Our young Engineers almost universally agreed that they had enjoyed the camaraderie of working in a team and the chance to use their creative side.
Well done to all of our 2019 Go4Setters, engineers of the future!BACK
