Sixth Form admissions

Hi, I am Miss Sue Callaghan and I am available to answer any queries you may have about applying to our Sixth Form. If you would like to come and see the Sixth Form and what we have to offer please contact me by phone: 01332 514267 or by email: admissions@derbyhigh.derby.sch.uk .

We would encourage you to apply in the Autumn Term but you can apply to join our Sixth Form at any time during your final year of GCSE.  The expected minimum requirement for entry is 7 full GCSE passes at grade A*-B including English and Maths at grade 5 or above.  Any student who finds they do not quite meet the requirements will be considered on an individual basis.  Applicants will be required to sit a verbal reasoning test along with an informal interview.

We encourage prospective students to come for a no-obligation taster day on a day that fits with their other commitments. Taster days can be booked at any time by contacting the Registrar who will then arrange a visit to include subjects of specific interest and provide an opportunity for prospective students to spend time with their peer group. Students attending Taster Days are required to register by returning the registration form and £20 registration fee.

During a taster day we ask a prospective student to sit a 45 minute test on the basis of which an offer for Sixth Form will be made, subject to achieving the necessary GCSE grades (7 A*-B or grades 9-6) plus individual subject requirements.

Scholarship and Award applications can be made at any point during the academic year but we recommend the Autumn Term. There are two core papers in English and maths and then subject specific papers in the chosen academic subject. We also offer Awards in Sport, Music and Drama which would involve an audition and interview. We generally request that students return to try for a Scholarship or Award within two weeks of their taster day.  Scholarships and Awards hold a value of between £1,000 to £3,000 discount on the full fee.

If you are considering joining Derby High School in the Sixth Form further details are available in the Sixth Form Options & Information Brochure, which I would be happy to send to you. Throughout the admissions process I am available to answer any questions and I look forward to welcoming you to the school.
