Shakespeare Workshop - "A Real Treat"!

On Friday 1st December, pupils from Years 5 and 6 enjoyed an awe-inspiring Shakespeare day, when they welcomed the Young Shakespeare Company to Derby High Primary. The day’s focus was Hamlet, and pupils took part in workshops during the morning, where they were introduced to the story and had the chance to become different characters from the play. In the afternoon, the visiting actors treated pupils to an immersive and dynamic performance of the play, with added help from the pupils, who either had specific roles or joined in with sound effects and key lines from the script. The whole day was a real treat and it was clear from the pupils’ responses throughout the day how involved they became in the story and how much they enjoyed the experience.

We also received some wonderful feedback from the visiting actors, who told us that our pupils were the best that they had ever worked with! They commented particularly on their enthusiasm and energy, as well as how well they all responded and joined in, really embracing all elements of the day.

Well done to our brilliant Year 5 and 6 pupils – we’re really proud of you!
