A field course was the setting for this year’s House Cross country event and ten eager students from each House, and in two age groups, lined up at the start. Cheering spectators roared on the competitors and great feats of exertion and persistence were shown by all. Upper sixth students in particular were well represented and 6.7 had 8 competitors out of the 11 in their form!
Battling through the mud and leading from the start, the winner in the Lower Senior race was Annabelle Ita representing St Patrick in a time of 6.58. In second place, representing St Andrew, was Libby Bateman-Arkinstall and Aimee Boucherat took third place for St George just pipping by a whisker Eliza Richold from St David. Runners who also finished in the top ten highly scoring points were Connie Williams, Hettie Munns, Megan Oram, Tabitha Shepherd, Caitlin Oram and Lucy Flint. The top three were each awarded medals and the winner also received a trophy.
Megan Oram was the top U3 student and consequently received the Burford Cup.
In the Upper Senior race our elite GB cyclist Sarah Briggs took the gold medal representing St Patrick, Derby High Sports Captain Lily Cocking representing St David took the silver and Jess Seymour from St Andrew won the bronze. Other notable achievements were 4th Abi Hymas, 5th Ishani Khosla, 6th Ruby Kumar, 7th Hannah Steele, 8th Alero Etuwewe, 9th Mohan Kaur and 10th Jasmine Brittan. Well done to all of the runners.
