Last week, eleven of our Lower Sixth girls attended the new STEM lab at Loughborough University for the two day residential stage of the Engineering Education Scheme.
The girls had the chance to use the state of the art facilities at this brand new engineering hub, including computer aided design software and 3D printing, as well as precision electric power tools and the latest coding equipment.
The two teams, who are working on a computerised drill bit with JCB and a new propeller design with Rolls Royce, had a very busy couple of days, learning new skills and stretching their old skills to the limit. The engineers from both companies were very impressed at the willingness of the girls from Derby High to take on all new challenges big or small and to be able to learn new skills from scratch.
The girls will finish their report before Easter and present their findings to a panel of engineering experts at the Celebration and Assessment Day - the end of a very worthwhile six month project!
